Polygonian turns your picture into a gorgeous artwork made only with triangles, through a process called Delaunay Triangulation, invented in 1934!
Far from a random process, the artistic decision is made based on the colors, gradients, and edges of the picture, and the result is an abstract, unique, and vivid interpretation of the picture.
Some may know this artform as 2D Low Poly; others call it Triangulation Art or Polygon Art. I prefer, simply, Polygonian.
Auto vs. Manual
In recent years, triangulation art has been a trending technique employed in design. However, its use is mostly limited to simple random triangulation over color gradients (such as Galaxy S5's home screen), or low-fidelity triangulation that achieves resemblance only through using large number points. Skilled artists, on the other hand, can make beautiful triangulation artworks, but at the expense of tedious process that could take hours per image.
In developing Polygonian, I want to change that. I want to make triangulation art to be accessible to the general public, and to offer a tool that greatly assists artists' creation process.
First, Polygonian is fully automated. You can just pick an image, and voila, the triangulation is done! You can adjust the level of details to your liking.
Second, Polygonian provides a comprehensive support for manual editing. You can add points, erase points, and the triangulation is updated in real time; You can chose to simply specific regions of the triangulation; and undo/redo is fully supported.
Every one of the Polygonian artworks shown here is created either completely automatically, or followed by a small amount of edits measured in minutes!
Every ★★★★★ rating counts! You'll help spread the words, bring joy to others who have yet to discover the magic of Polygonian, and provide the inspiration and motivation to keep making Polygonian better. Thank you!
Polygonian was truly made with love. Your support helps justify putting my heart and soul into making this app the best possible. Thank you!
If you have any questions or suggestions about Polygonian, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. To better service you, please include basic device and OS information in the correspondence.
We welcome all kinds of suggestions on improving Polygonian. Please feel free to drop us a note!
Polygonian relies on the generosity of other people. I depend on the use of beautiful icons as a key part of the user interface, sample images to showcase the power of Polygonian, and important software components that simplifies working within the iOS environment. About the Developer
My name is Hardy Leung, some of you may know me as the developer of Tagxedo, a popular WebApp that turns your words into a gorgeously shaped word cloud. I have a strong passion in making beautiful artworks using computer algorithms, and hence the creation of Tagxedo and Polygonian, among other things.
Thank you to everyone who helps Polygonian by spreading the words, showing your love, or simply enjoying the Polygonian. Thank you!
